Day 118: Jeremiah 8-16

Judah has been sinful and treacherous.  “Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.”  Do not worship idols.  “The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”  We read of plots to destroy Jeremiah, the people are upset with his prophesy and want to kill him.  These plots are uncovered and God says He will take care of them.  Jeremiah prays for answers from the Lord.  The Lord gives him answers.  We read the story of the waistband.  There is a drought.  We are warned of false prophets.  God will no longer forestall their judgement.  Jeremiah prays for God’s protection and God’s answers him.  There will be great distress in the land.  After the punishment, God will restore them.
